ALGERIA & MOROCCO – After the visit of MISE positive outlook for Italian investments in North Africa

In September, the visit of the Minister of Economic Development, Federica Guidi, reached Algeri and Rabat, with the aim of strengthening relations and lay the basis for future cooperation in economy and trade between our country and two of the major markets of North Africa: Algeria and Morocco.

During the meeting in Algeri the Minister of Industry and Mines Bouchouareb presented the main reforms adopted to promote the industrialization of the country by 2020 intended to create a local business environment: reform of the investment code, order of public companies , encouragement of partnerships development, definition of the role of the Ministry of Industry in industrial activities. The Minister Guidi stressed the strong interest of Italian companies for the Algerian market together with the proposal to collaborate not only through commercial relationship but also through co-development and co-production. Mentioned a plan for the construction of three new refineries, to reduce the country’s dependence on imports.

The second meeting of the Minister Guidi was held in Rabat with the Minister of Industry, Foreign Trade, Investment and Digital Economy. The introduction of the Moroccan Minister touched the strengths of the economic model of the country: the constant positive improvement of the business climate, private sector support and development of the industrial sector to drive export and increase employment.

It was then highlighted the similarities of the production systems in the two countries, characterized by the widespread presence of SMEs and the strong and positive image of the  Italian products in Morocco. The most dynamic sectors, in which you have the greatest opportunities are the automotive, aviation, metalworking and industrial machinery, textiles and renewable energies. In addition, the Moroccan Minister expressed the potential of the infrastructure and agriculture sector, and the Minister Guidi has confirmed Italy’s willingness to be more present, in the sector in which our country is among the world’s leading and already well positioned in the Morocco market.
