MOROCCO – Open tender for infrastructure to renew the Country

MOROCCO – Open tender for infrastructure to renew the Country

Recently released by the Central Bank of Morocco, to be ultimately confirmed only in a few months, data indicate for 2015 a GDP growth of 4.6%; the Spain ranked as the major trade partner, followed closely by France; the inflation rate is fixed around 1.2%; foreign investment saw a marked increase in the last year (+ 8% in 2014, up to 38% between 2001 and 2013); and, in the end, they reported a decline in unemployment by almost one percentage point (from 9.6 to 8.7%).

It is important to focus on the growing trend that is in place for over ten years now. Growth this year is almost double that of the previous year (2.6%), and confirms the average growth between 2001 and 2013 of 4.8%. An average which suffered a little of the effects of the international economic crisis and political events (as well as of conflicts) that shook North Africa and that we commonly catalogue with the definition of the Arab Spring. The constant growth is reflected in the willingness to renew the Country with many projects in different industries, especially construction and infrastructure with many tenders opened to foreign companies, as for example the one we report below.

Tender for highway widening: Casablanca-Berrechid

It will start in 2016 the construction site for the Casablanca-Berrechid road widening, a stretch of about 35 km that connects the largest city of Morocco to the town located in a southerly direction. For the realization of the work the company Autoroutes du Maroc, the private company in charge of the management of highways, published an international tender for the preselection of the company that will execute the works of the axis expansion from two to three lanes. The stretch from Berrechid to Casablanca is very busy especially in the part that leads to the Casablanca airport. The area of Berrechid also owns an industrial area with a hundred companies operating in different sectors. The passage counts about 40,000 vehicles per day.
